Harmful App?
Recently in OnePlus 3 & OnePlus 3T Google Play has started showing one of the apps as harmful. Factory-mode application in OnePlus 3 & OnePlus 3T is the app which is shown as harmful. Previously this app was known as Engineer-mode. OnePlus later fixed the bug in the app and re-branded it as Factory-mode.
What is Factory-mode?
Factory-mode or Engineer-mode is an app that is used to test smartphones as a part of their manufacturing process. The after sales team also requires it to check the device.
Oxygen-OS 5.0 for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, based on Android 8.0 Oreo, was released last month.
Many users have reported this issue in Play store. This Factory-mode is showing as harmful since the roll out of oxygen OS 5.0.1 The search giant, in the alert card on the smartphone's screen shows "This app contains code that attempts to bypass Android's security protections." It adds that, "Even if you have heard of this app or the app developer, this version of the app could harm your device."
It is worth adding that users can still chose to keep the app or uninstall it as their wish.
Is it Harmful?
It is not harmful since the FactoryMode app is only used for diagnostic purposes, there's no danger to your device if you choose to remove it.
