MP3 format is dead officially now by the people who invented it. Fraunhofer institute of integrated circuits, in German research institution that funded MP3's development in late 80's has decided no longer to issue licenses for certain MP3 related patents. They want to make way for other formats that have appeared.
According to the report German research lab said Technicolor's MP3 licensing program for certain MP3 related patents & software of Technicolor & Fraunhofer IIS have been terminated.
