Xiaomi Mi Max 2 gets a new variant

Xiaomi launched its Mi Max smartphone in India in only one variant. It was priced at Rs 16,999. Now Xiaomi is launching a new variant which will be priced lesser than the previously launched model. Xiaomi is launching a new variant of the Mi Max 2 in India soon, aiming to please mid-range buyers. After launching the Mi Max 2 with 4GB + 64GB configuration at Rs. 16,999 in July, the company will now be coming out with a 4GB + 32GB option that is priced at Rs. 14,999, but will have an introductory price tag of Rs. 12,999. The new variant will go on sale starting September 20 at 12pm on Amazon India, Mi.com and Mi Home, the company confirms.

Specs

The Smartphone has a dual-SIM (Micro+Nano) Xiaomi Mi Max 2 runs MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It sports a 6.44-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display and is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. In our review of the handset, we found the camera department, the Mi Max 2 features a 12-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX386 sensor (with 1.25-micron pixels), PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, and dual-LED flash. On the front, it sports a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture and real-time beautification options.

While the Mi Max 2 was initially launched with 64GB of inbuilt storage, the Chinese phone maker will be launching a 32GB variant that will fall under the sub-Rs.15,000 category. Both the variants come with expandability option via microSD card (up to 128GB). In terms connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 supports 4G VoLTE, as well as dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C, Bluetooth v4.2, and GPS/ A-GPS. Sensors include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, infrared sensor, fingerprint sensor, and proximity sensor.

The smartphone packs a 5300mAh battery that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The Mi Max 2 measures 174.1x88.7x7.6mm and weighs 211 grams. And the overall performance to be smooth despite a now dated Snapdragon 625 SoC.
